Chino Latinos Birthday Event

Chino latinos event

Today I’m writing about an event held by Chino Latinos last Thursday, sorry for the delay in posting, I’ve been working some funky shift patterns so haven’t had too much time to work on the blog!

Chino Latinos is a Pan-Asian restaurant and they were celebrating their 12th birthday here in Nottingham, and sure do they know how to party!  The theme was red and black, I wore a red and white polka dot dress with a black shrug to fit into the theme.

It was obvious that Chino Latinos didn’t scrimp on any part of this event as I was impressed by all the detail put into making this a fabulous night.  There was a table full of sushi and other nibbles, as well as waiting staff circulating with other bits and pieces.

I have to say of the food that I did try, it was lovely (I’m a very fussy eater!)  After all gathering in the welcome hall, we were treated to a traditional Chinese dragon dance which was amazing and even featured him throwing some cabbage.

We were led into the main restaurant by the dragon where we were greeted by unlimited cocktails, lots of food, and a dessert table piled as high and the eye could see.  The staff really pulled out all the stops that evening and the inclusion of a free bar was amazing.

The evening only improved from there, there was a DJ, stilt walkers, and firebreathers – boy do they know how to party!

I had such a lovely evening and I really appreciate the generosity shown by Chino Latinos, I enjoyed the evening so much that I was feeling a little worse for wear the following day at work!  I would like to thank both Cartwright Communications and Chino Latinos for inviting me to this wonderful event, I will definitely be returning to Chino Latinos with my husband for a full meal.

Gray and Bull Blogging Event // March 2017

Gray and Bull event.png

On Thursday, I was fortunate enough to have been invited to an event held by Gray & Bull Opticians.  When I received the invite to the event, I was very excited as I had always admired the Tiffany glasses in the window when passing.

Gray and Bull Opticians is based on Pelham Street in Nottingham and is at the entrance to the fashionable quarter of the town.

I had never been inside before and was pleasantly surprised by the interior.  We were greeted by the staff members of the practice and heard some history about the place.  Gray & Bull was originally established in 1806 and was situated further up the road, they moved to the current address in 1939 and have remained there ever since.  This makes them the oldest independent opticians in Nottingham.  They spoke about the practice and how they strive for the most personal and thorough service involving tailor-making each pair of glasses to include even the most minute detail.

We had the opportunity to have a talk to the Barton Perreira representative who was very lovely and even gave us the chance to try on some of the new range before they were stocked!  We spoke about the extensive and laborious process of making the glasses, and about the different types of acetate (plastic).  Barton Perreira makes all of their frames in Japan using a Japanese Acetate called Zyl, this is slow cured to increase the strength of the material.  Even as someone novice in this area, I could tell the difference between the two and feel the quality of the Zyl.

As well as stocking Barton Perreria, Gray and Bulls stock a massive range of niche and specialist eyewear including all of the favourites: Tom Ford, Moscot, Face a Face, Ray Bans, and Oliver Peoples are some of the more commonly known.  As an independent optician, they have the ability to fine pick their stock to their target audiences.

They have a wide variety of lenses and coatings which are all chosen in a consultation with the optometrist, from standard lenses to the highest quality of Nikon lenses, there is something for everyone.

I tried on lots of pairs of glasses and in the end, these are my two favourite pairs!

The final experience was to try out virtual reality of difference lenses, this isn’t something I have come across before but it showed me that there was a massive difference between standard and specialist lenses.

Thank you to Gray and Bulls Opticians for having me at the event, I’m definitely going to be cashing in the free eye test voucher and I am excited to hear the suggestions towards my current eye care.  It was lovely meeting you all and especially thank you to Amy for setting up this event.

I would also like to say a MASSIVE thank you to all the companies that helped out with the event: Ugly Bread Bakery, Six Barrels, Alcon, Nkd, 200 degrees, Zeiss, Cheese Shop Nottingham, Thea Pharmaceutical, Hoya, Nikon, and all their contributions towards the very generous goody bags!

Two final pictures of me feeling like a movie star in lovely but expensive sunglasses!

Life Update // Jan 2016

life-update

Hi Guys!

Thought I’d check in and do a little update, I’ve got a review coming your way in a couple of days for the Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation and Setting Spray.

My new year has been totally hectic and I’ve been thinking about which way I want to take my blog.  Although I love beauty, with my exams around the corner I have had to put the blog on the back burner and I’d like to apologise for that.

Today I thought I’d give you a little update on what has happened the past few week in my life (apart from studying).  I’ve spent the vast majority of my life at work and studying for my final exam but yesterday I managed to get out and go into Nottingham.

Yesterday, the first thing I did was to go have my hair cut.  It was LONG overdue and my split ends were getting worse and worse.  I decided to go crazy and have a HUGE change and got my hair cut super short.

I LOVE my new hair and would love to hear some opinions on hair styling products (I am totally clueless!)

Here’s a super scary picture of most of the hair chopped off!

Another exciting thing that has happened is that I bought myself an Amazon Echo (treat yo’ self) which is proving to be an excellent purchase!  It has a stunning design and wouldn’t look out of place in even the most tidy of houses.

I would recommend an Amazon Echo to any tech savvy people, I’m planning on investing in the Phillip Hue lighting system next so that I will be able to control my lights through the Echo.

Finally here’s a few makeup looks that I did last week before I had all my hair chopped off!

Lots of love

New year goals! // 2017!

new-year

Happy new year everyone! I know it’s a touch late (it’s almost half way through January already!) but I’ve worked all the holidays and I’m very much looking forward to having next week off work.

Last year I set myself a new years resolution to read a book every month throughout the year which wasn’t a textbook.  I always loved reading but because of studying I found myself reaching for textbooks and medical journals over anything else.  I accomplished my resolution and even read more than my one book per month.  My favourite book for the year  (series actually) were the Throne of Glass novels which are a series of YA (young adult) books which were really easy to read and not something that required much brain power after being at work all day.

I’ve set myself a few new goals for this year, as well as trying to upkeep my record of one book per month.  I am sitting my final examinations to become a registered veterinary nurse in March (terrifying thought that they’re super close) and this is my main objective for the year!  I’m going to also be trying to cut down on the amount of makeup I buy (yes, I’m being serious) and going to only be replacing the products that I have used up, for example; if I want to try a new foundation, I have to use up the foundation I have already got.  I’m not going to uphold the rule for lipsticks/lip products because that would be crazy!

I’m going to try and do monthly empties posts with updates of what I’ve used through, my review, and what I’m going to/have replaced it with.

I’m going to be moving my blog towards more of a beauty crossed with lifestyle blogging page, I feel myself changing and want to adapt my blog to move along with me.

I hope you’ve had wonderful holidays no matter whether you celebrate them!

My Skincare Routine // 2016

Hi

This post is going on be on my current skincare routine, as with everything it’s constantly changing as I find new products and adapt it to my needs.  Just because a product works great for me, doesn’t mean it’ll work for you as my skin type is combination to oily and isn’t sensitive at all.

skincare-routine

Starting off with a fresh face every morning, I always use my Garnier Miceller water for combination sensitive skin, I find that this just freshens my face up and removes any residue of makeup that I haven’t managed to get off my face the night before.

Next, I use the Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix daily cleansing pads to gently exfoliate and tone my skin.  These have worked wonders for my skin and I’m finding that they have made a massive difference in the softness of my skin.  IMG_0770.JPG

Then I use my Olay complete moisturiser, this is a very light-weight moisturiser and is designed especially for normal to oily skin.  I find that it absorbs quickly into the skin and doesn’t leave any residue nor disturb my foundation.

At the end of the day I again use the Garnier Micellar water to remove my makeup and if I’m wearing any stubborn eyeshadow, waterproof eye makeup, or any false eyelashes, I use the simple duel effect eye makeup remover which as it is oil based, removes anything that I would usually have to scrub to remove with ease.

simple.png

Alternating every other night I use my Nip+Fab Glycolic fix extreme night pads with the daily pads as recommended.  These are a little bit harsher on the skin and aren’t really recommended for use with sensitive skin.

After cleansing my face I make sure that my lips are ready for the next day by using a lip scrub from LUSH (they taste AMAZING) and then smothering them in vaseline.  I’ve been doing this for years and have never had any problems with my lips getting chapped or sore in the winter.

Luckily I don’t have any major problems with my skin apart from the odd hormonal spot and find that these products work really well.  When I’m in the shower I use the clean and clear exfoliating daily wash which I have used for years (I think since teenage years!) however I want to change to a product without microbeads, does anyone have any suggestions?

I’m still trying to figure out how to use my new camera properly but so far I’m really loving the picture quality.  I’m hoping to purchase a light box after Christmas to even better ones!
