Intu Victoria Centre SS17 Style

intu event 2

Saturday I was fortunate enough to be invited to the spring/summer 2017 fashion event at Intu Victoria Centre as part of the Nottingham Fashion Week.  We met up at Cafe Rizzoli where we were greeted by the owner of the chain who as last time, gave us impeccable service.  We enjoyed a Bellini and truffles in the sunshine and had a good natter before heading down to where the main event was being held (outside boots).

We were lead down to the main foyer, where we treated to a fashion show.  I appreciated the thought behind the show as they showed different body types, ways to dress up/down outfits to save money, and different styles.  The trends this season are right up my alley with embroidery, denim, ruffles, and chokers all key pieces this season!

There were “paparazzi” around the centre taking snaps of everyone in the centre who were dressed up (very stylishly may I add!).  I managed to snap these couple of picture of them!

After the fashion show, we were set a challenge to find items that matched a theme we were given, my theme was seeing red.  I picked up a lovely red choker style t-shirt in Topshop by the brand Tea and Cake which is super cool!  I also picked up some sparkly Toms which were amazing as my feet were suffering a bit after wearing heels all day.

After our style challenge we were taken out for food at Handmade Burger Co, this is the only part of the event I was a little disappointed in.  The food took a long time to come out and was cold when it arrived, the drink orders kept being messed up, and the servers didn’t seem to know what was going on.

I appreciate the generosity from the Intu Victoria Centre staff as they again pulled out all the stops for us bloggers.  I’d like to say special thanks to media team and cartwright communications for holding such wonderful events for us bloggers.

Gray and Bull Blogging Event // March 2017

Gray and Bull event.png

On Thursday, I was fortunate enough to have been invited to an event held by Gray & Bull Opticians.  When I received the invite to the event, I was very excited as I had always admired the Tiffany glasses in the window when passing.

Gray and Bull Opticians is based on Pelham Street in Nottingham and is at the entrance to the fashionable quarter of the town.

I had never been inside before and was pleasantly surprised by the interior.  We were greeted by the staff members of the practice and heard some history about the place.  Gray & Bull was originally established in 1806 and was situated further up the road, they moved to the current address in 1939 and have remained there ever since.  This makes them the oldest independent opticians in Nottingham.  They spoke about the practice and how they strive for the most personal and thorough service involving tailor-making each pair of glasses to include even the most minute detail.

We had the opportunity to have a talk to the Barton Perreira representative who was very lovely and even gave us the chance to try on some of the new range before they were stocked!  We spoke about the extensive and laborious process of making the glasses, and about the different types of acetate (plastic).  Barton Perreira makes all of their frames in Japan using a Japanese Acetate called Zyl, this is slow cured to increase the strength of the material.  Even as someone novice in this area, I could tell the difference between the two and feel the quality of the Zyl.

As well as stocking Barton Perreria, Gray and Bulls stock a massive range of niche and specialist eyewear including all of the favourites: Tom Ford, Moscot, Face a Face, Ray Bans, and Oliver Peoples are some of the more commonly known.  As an independent optician, they have the ability to fine pick their stock to their target audiences.

They have a wide variety of lenses and coatings which are all chosen in a consultation with the optometrist, from standard lenses to the highest quality of Nikon lenses, there is something for everyone.

I tried on lots of pairs of glasses and in the end, these are my two favourite pairs!

The final experience was to try out virtual reality of difference lenses, this isn’t something I have come across before but it showed me that there was a massive difference between standard and specialist lenses.

Thank you to Gray and Bulls Opticians for having me at the event, I’m definitely going to be cashing in the free eye test voucher and I am excited to hear the suggestions towards my current eye care.  It was lovely meeting you all and especially thank you to Amy for setting up this event.

I would also like to say a MASSIVE thank you to all the companies that helped out with the event: Ugly Bread Bakery, Six Barrels, Alcon, Nkd, 200 degrees, Zeiss, Cheese Shop Nottingham, Thea Pharmaceutical, Hoya, Nikon, and all their contributions towards the very generous goody bags!

Two final pictures of me feeling like a movie star in lovely but expensive sunglasses!

Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation // Review

urban-decay-all-nighter

This post is going to be a review of the new Urban Decay All Nighter foundation.  As most of you know, I’m ghostly pale which means finding foundations that go pale enough for me is a mission in itself.  I wanted to try this foundation ever since it came out and finally got around to trying a sample (and then purchasing it for myself).  For reference, I’m shade Shell in Estee Lauder Double Wear and I wear 0.5 in UD.

The foundation itself is FULL coverage and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone wanting a natural finish to their look.  It reminds me of the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation without the cakey-ness and flash back that comes with it (as UD All Nighter contains no SPF).

I found the best way to apply the foundation was with a flat topped kabuki brush to apply most of the product and then perfect the look with a damp beauty blender.  I love the finish of this foundation and I find that it sits really nicely on my skin.  Due to it being full coverage I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone who is suffering from dry skin – especially if it’s odd patches as it will cling to it without perfect moisturisation.

To conclude I have fallen in love with this foundation and it is my new go to!  What foundations have you tried recently (especially if you’re pale like me!)

New year goals! // 2017!

new-year

Happy new year everyone! I know it’s a touch late (it’s almost half way through January already!) but I’ve worked all the holidays and I’m very much looking forward to having next week off work.

Last year I set myself a new years resolution to read a book every month throughout the year which wasn’t a textbook.  I always loved reading but because of studying I found myself reaching for textbooks and medical journals over anything else.  I accomplished my resolution and even read more than my one book per month.  My favourite book for the year  (series actually) were the Throne of Glass novels which are a series of YA (young adult) books which were really easy to read and not something that required much brain power after being at work all day.

I’ve set myself a few new goals for this year, as well as trying to upkeep my record of one book per month.  I am sitting my final examinations to become a registered veterinary nurse in March (terrifying thought that they’re super close) and this is my main objective for the year!  I’m going to also be trying to cut down on the amount of makeup I buy (yes, I’m being serious) and going to only be replacing the products that I have used up, for example; if I want to try a new foundation, I have to use up the foundation I have already got.  I’m not going to uphold the rule for lipsticks/lip products because that would be crazy!

I’m going to try and do monthly empties posts with updates of what I’ve used through, my review, and what I’m going to/have replaced it with.

I’m going to be moving my blog towards more of a beauty crossed with lifestyle blogging page, I feel myself changing and want to adapt my blog to move along with me.

I hope you’ve had wonderful holidays no matter whether you celebrate them!

Intu Bloggers Event // December 2016

Hi All,

I hope you are well! I’ve just handed in my final two assignments for my course and my final written exam is next week – I finally feel like it’s coming to the end!

Today’s post is going to about the other day (Monday to be exact) where Intu Victoria Centre held a Christmas bloggers event.

I had a fantastic time and saw some lovely friendly faces.

Firstly we were greeted with a super tasty cocktail from Thaikhun (which is my favourite restaurant EVER) and seated in an area in the upper mall.

We were then introduced to a company called supersuper which had Christmas jumper crafting for us to do – Check them out here!

We also had some beyond awesome “Froyo” from the Sloane Brothers who have a little stall downstairs.

Overall I had a great evening, there was an option to go play a game on the HTC Vive VR Headset about decorating a Christmas tree but I had work early the following morning so opted for an early night.

At the end of the evening, we were given a generous goodie bag, full of samples – my personal favourite of these was the Charlotte Tilbury perfume!

Hope you are all having a great week

Limecrime and Zoeva // Cult Product Haul

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the gap of a week, I’ve got three assignments due in all at the same time and it’s getting pretty intense!  This post is a mini haul of two products – not really a haul but still!

I purchased both these products from Love Makeup this Monday and they arrived yesterday – super speedy even with basic postage!

Lime Crime Diamond Crushers – Choke

This is such a beautiful lipstick, technically a lip topper.  I’ve had my eye on this product since they were first sneaked by Lime Crime and I had to pick up the shade Choke first (I’m totally going to get more though!).  It’s a white glitter with a pink and blue shift which looks totally stunning on its own on the lips or on the top of another product.  This can also be used as a highlight, on the eyelids or to completely cover your face in! watch out work Christmas party ^.^  The packaging is stunning and feels sturdy as its got some weight to it.  It’s hard to get a picture of the shade so I recommend looking at the Lime Crime website to watch the videos on each of the shades before purchasing just so you can see the different shade shifts.

Zoeva En Taupe Palette.

This palette I picked up on a whim as it was in my recommended, retailing at a tiny £18 I thought I’d give it a go! The shadows shimmer shadows are creamy and pigmented and the matte shadows are lovely but a tiny bit chalky.  The colours are perfect for me and I can see this becoming a staple in my collection.

Sorry for the short post, I’ll be back at normal blogging speed next Wednesday after my submission date I promise.
